The Finest Thought Leaders
experienced the struggles and challenges of several temporary jobs he describes in his book. Learning to appreciate the challenges of people in many roles, whether the person is checking out groceries, serving ice cream, driving a truck, or any one of a variety of occupations., he has learned to be a much better listener. It seems not enough of us are willing to spend time listening to our fellow members on The Journey we call life.
After obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation, he acquired experience in over thirty different models of aircraft. His passengers have included coaches, Special Olympics team members, governors, and government officials. Conducting training in high-tech simulators over several years, he administered initial and recurrent training to pilots of various backgrounds.
His experience enables him to be an encourager to friends or relatives going through their struggles.
Although regularly flying in business jets at high altitudes, he feels closest to God while on the ground, surrounded by fellow believers.
To be recognized in this world of ours, it seems one must be exceptionally talented or beautiful. Not enough recognition is given to those who go about their daily lives, are dedicated to their job and family, living responsibly and honorably. None of us is perfect, but through perseverance, we can each strive for that goal.
Remembering one Christmas spent with only his Min-Pin, Max, Kelly now lives with his wife, Judy, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He is very aware of and thankful for God's blessings, several of those in the form of grandchildren. Many of those blessings seemed impossible but are rewards for hanging onto that tiny seed of Faith.
The son of a father who served in the military in World War II and a mother who immigrated to the U.S. from Germany after surviving the war there, Martin learned to persevere and face all situations with grit and faith. Early on, he conceived a desire to become a pilot, even though accomplishing that goal with a four-year degree would present many barriers. He worked as a certified flight instructor for thirty-five years and describes in close, technical detail the places and situations his flying led him to, including a trip around the world. He married and had two sons, making gradual progress up the ladder of success in his profession, often having to work away from home. Personal problems slowly sapped his energies and led to a long, agonizing legal battle and bouts of deep depression. Through it all, he maintained a strong Christian faith, bolstered by family and church, concluding that helping others is a powerful means of saving ourselves.
Martin has constructed a remarkable metaphorical scenario alongside the narrative of his life, depicting an anonymous wartime pilot making split-second decisions, sometimes resulting in a sense of victory and, at least once, leading to a perilous parachute bailout into open waters. These short scenes deftly parallel the trials and triumphs that Martin himself faced, not only in the air but also on the ground as he struggled with a disturbing, unpredictable relationship. He includes photos of family and some of the unusual aircraft he was fortunate to have flown in. He believes that aircraft instructors, such as he was, are an undersung group who risk a great deal to accomplish a task necessary for national security. Martinās frank, intelligent chronicle will fascinate anyone with airborne ambitions and serve as inspiration, too, for dedicated people of faith.

One who looks for the potential in each individual, Kelly Martin, in this biography of his own life's struggles, shares the thoughts and feelings of one who is striving for achievement. Each one of us, on this planet we call Earth, is on a journey, one on which there are unknown roadblocks along the way.
To live a life of success, we each must deal with many different personalities, not all of which have our best interests in mind. Wrought with unmarked intersections or "splits" in the road, there are also many decisions one must make, some of those emerging as major setbacks to progress if the wrong path is taken. There are "pits" along the road waiting to swallow the careless or the unwary.
What you define as āSuccessā may be completely different than how others define it. Having piloted airplanes in more than 45 different countries, Mr. Martin has met many people of a diverse number of backgrounds. He believes that everybody has a story to tell and that each individual can "climb out" of whatever pit they might find themselves in; they can achieve their goals, given the necessary encouragement along the way.
We each have our battles to fight. In this book, he takes us back to a famous battle that occurred during World War II, paralleling life's challenges with the survival of one participant of that battle.
Firmly believing that God has a worthwhile purpose for every one of His children, Mr. Martin emphasizes the human connection that each one of us needs and that technology will never be able to replace.
