Increasingly Intense Attacks on Christianity

As of this writing, the UK is in the process of prosecuting a retired pastor who preached John 3:16 near a hospital. It seems that Northern Ireland has a law that makes it illegal to preach near a hospital where abortions are performed. Seemingly it doesn’t matter that his sermon had nothing to do with abortion. That kind of anti-Christian mindset is becoming quite common in the UK. But that’s the UK. It could never happen in the US, right?

Well, think again. It seems that during the Biden administration, that kind of legal bullying against Christians became rather common – not just concerning abortion, but in a number of other areas, as well.

A report was released on April 30, 2026 by the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias. The report identifies several specific areas where the Biden administration allegedly demonstrated bias against Christians.

Legal and Law Enforcement Actions

  • FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) Act Prosecutions: The Biden DOJ is accused of targeting pro-life Christians for peaceful activities under the FACE Act, while allegedly not prosecuting similar attacks against Catholic churches and pro-life organizations.
  • Targeting of "Traditionalist" Catholics: The report highlights an FBI memo from the Richmond field office that allegedly used religious affiliation as a basis to monitor certain Catholic communities.
  • Civil Rights Division Focus: The DOJ's Civil Rights Division is described as sidelining Christian claims of discrimination in favor of other protected groups, and publishing materials that allegedly suggested Christians cannot be victims of religious discrimination.
  • Garland School Board Memo: The report alleges the DOJ targeted parents at local school board meetings who expressed faith-based concerns about their children's education.

Educational Policies

  • Fines Against Christian Universities: The Department of Education is cited for levying record-breaking fines against institutions like Grand Canyon University and Liberty University, which the report claims were disproportionate compared to non-religious schools.
  • Title IX and Gender Ideology: The administration is accused of mandating gender ideology in schools, which allegedly violated the religious liberty of students and parents in athletics and private spaces.
  • Foster Care Policies: The Department of Health and Human Services allegedly prevented foster children from being placed with families or agencies that did not affirm gender ideology.

Employment and Workplace Rules

  • Vaccine Mandates: The report claims the administration dismissed religious objections to COVID-19 vaccine mandates, with internal DOJ records allegedly describing such objections as "insincere."
  • EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) and Religious Liberty: The EEOC allegedly pursued a policy agenda that violated religious liberty protections under Title VII, specifically regarding conscience rights for healthcare and service providers.
  • Conscience Rights: The report states federal policy treated conscience rights as optional, failing to adequately protect healthcare providers with religious objections to certain procedures.

Governance and Rights

  • Johnson Amendment: The task force claims the Biden administration used the Johnson Amendment to improperly chill the speech of Christian organizations and churches.
  • Pride Flag Displays: The administration was criticized for flying Pride flags at U.S. Embassies, including at the Vatican.

As a Christian, I hate to have to be fighting these kinds of culture war battles in the political arena. Politics is not what God has called me to as a vocation. But there is not a neat line between my preferences and my stewardship responsibility before God when it comes to expressing my faith in Christ out in the world.

The truth is, while everyone has their own lane to work in when it comes to their earthly vocation, there is a thread that runs through every one – and that thread is an individual’s worldview beliefs. A person who is a doctor, or electrician, or government worker, or whatever, operates in the arena of their vocation, but their worldview beliefs are at the very center of their work. For instance, a small business owner is going to do business based on the values that come from his or her worldview beliefs. The same is true for those in every other vocation. If you are a Christian, Christian values will be expressed. If you are an Atheist, relativistic values will come through – and so on.

Whatever worldview beliefs you hold will show forth in your attitude, your work ethic, your relationships, and, of course, how you express your faith. Great Britain used to be dominated by Christian beliefs and values, but that is no longer the case. America as a whole is not quite as far along that anti-Christian road as the Brits, but many places are getting there – as illustrated by the report above.

As we live our lives out in society, we find ourselves living in a particular environment – and the environment is shaped by the worldview beliefs that dominate it. Traditionally, in America, that worldview environment was shaped by Christian values. There has been a radical shift, however, and the dominant values shaping modern society are based on naturalistic (atheistic) values. And the increasing pressure on Christians reflects that.

The only way to turn that around is by a change in societal values. And the only way to effect that change is by changed hearts. That requires a two track strategy. To address the heart issue, Christians need to share Christ as widely as possible. And to address the environment issue, we need to actively promote Christian values in society by voting, and by advocating for Christian morality in every part of society.
