Christian Values Cancelled

Christian Values Cancelled

On his first day in office, President Biden issued an executive order that he claimed was designed to prevent “discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation.” The gist of his order was to direct federal agencies to interpret the word sex to include gender identity and sexual orientation. The practical effect of this order was that men who identified as women  (and vice versa) were able to be housed in dorms and use bathrooms and shower facilities designed for use by the opposite sex in colleges and universities, prisons, and other institutions where there is a federal connection. Federal law does not include that kind of language, but now, because of the order, federal agencies have to administer and enforce the law “as if” it were true.

The College of the Ozarks is a small Christian college in Point Lookout, Missouri. They have on-campus dorms that are segregated by sex, and the very idea of coed dorms is contrary to their values. They are now in the fight of their lives because a federal judge has ruled that the Biden administration rule requires that they open women’s dorm rooms and showers to biological males. They are trying to fight it, of course, but this kind of immoral heavy handedness is just one more example of secularist attempts to cancel Christian values in American society.

But what is the practical implication of this? Well, we don’t have to look to far to find out.

In 2020, the state of California passed SB 132. This is a law that requires the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to record an inmate's self-reported gender identity, gender pronouns, and titles throughout their term in the facility.  The law also allows transgender prison inmates to put in a request to transfer to a facility that aligns with their gender identity.

But not to worry. The possibility that this might result in pregnancies within those women’s facilities was considered in the development of SB 132, and there are procedures in place to address pregnancy in the prisons. As a part of the process, they are introducing pregnancy resources and contraceptives. And to help the women inmates adapt to the changes, they have also been warned by guards to expect sexual harassment when men start entering their prisons.

It would be easy enough for me to go off now about how disgusting and immoral this policy is. It is both of those things, and Christians ought to be fighting it tooth and nail.

But we also need to realize that fighting this politically and in the courts is only a temporary fix for a temporal problem. The real problem is spiritual, and the only permanent fix is a spiritual fix. The problem is that the naturalistic beliefs that the Biden policy is based upon has a false understanding of the nature of man and the source of morality. That worldview system sees human beings as nothing more than natural animals with highly evolved brains, and morality as simply the societal rules that the powerful are able to enforce.

Both of those beliefs are false. Human beings are actually persons made in the image of God, and morality is an objective set of beliefs and behaviors based upon the very character of God Himself.

But creating change in society is ultimately not a matter of changing the political philosophy that dominates the culture. It requires that hearts and minds be changed. And that kind of change can only happen when Jesus Christ changes people’s lives.

So now for the real, bottom line question: Do you want to really change what is going on? If so, then you are going to have to learn how to focus on pointing people to Jesus Christ. It is as simple as that.
