There is a civil trial going on right now in San Francisco Federal District court. This one relates to the case of a couple of citizen journalists who recorded conversations with people who work with Planned Parenthood. These particular conversations regarded the harvesting of the organs of aborted babies. It seems that the state government of California is hostile to these journalists, and have colluded with Planned Parenthood allowing them to bring a lawsuit seeking millions of dollars in penalties – even though it was Planned Parenthood that was operating illegally.
The recorded conversation was with Dr. Deborah Nucatola, the former senior director of medical services for Planned Parenthood – America’s leading abortion provider. During her career, Dr. Nucatola has performed tens of thousands of abortions – sometimes even as many as 200 in a single week. In the conversation, Dr. Nucatola casually described how, in order to best preserve the body parts of babies during late term abortions, she would use ultrasound to guide her in flipping the child into a breach position so she could grab it above and below the thorax with her tools. This allowed her to more effectively extract and harvest intact whole fresh organs. These would then be sold to companies that would use them for experimentation and transplants. They were particularly interested in extracting intact hearts, lungs, and livers. They would also harvest scalps in order to do research for treating baldness.
It is hard for most Christians to image how this kind of barbarism could be happening in America – and even more difficult to understand how governments could be not only protecting it, but actually helping to support it.
Well, the answer is twofold. First is the money. Not only does Planned Parenthood make millions of dollars with their abortion business, but they also support many politicians by giving them massive amounts of money.
But this only accounts for part of the answer. Even with the money, politicians who recognize the immorality of abortion won’t play ball. Those who do, however, have an additional motivation besides money. They actually believe that abortion is a good thing. They don’t recognize human life as sacred, and believe that abortion actually provides a public service by freeing women from unwanted pregnancies, and giving them “control” over their bodies. It is that kind of belief system that makes it okay, in their minds, to support the abortion industry.
So where do these kinds of beliefs come from? Well, they are straight out of Naturalism. With the belief that human beings are nothing more than natural animals with highly evolved brains, all kinds of “reasons” can be conceived as to why it is best for society to indulge this practice. And with no objective moral reason why it should be considered bad, it can be deemed good and right by those who have the political power to make it so.
But there are objectively true moral beliefs that are an expression of the very character of God himself. Part of that truth is that human beings are special creations of God, and that human life is sacred. The practice of abortion, at any stage, is simply evil. Those who take it a step further and use the practice for profit are piling evil upon evil. We are absolutely right to stand strong against this vile immorality.
