How Immoral Can We Get?

How Immoral Can We Get?

Ever hear of a “throuple,” as opposed to a couple? This seems to be a relatively new word for an alternative family structure in which there are three people who live together in a polyamorous relationship – each one enjoying a “special relationship with each of our partners that we love and cherish together.”

Leo and Mary were highschool sweethearts and married when Mary turned seventeen. They subsequently had two children. Now, at this writing, the two are 34 and 32, and are owners of a CrossFit gym. One day Kimberlee began attending their facility and they all “instantly vibed” with one another. Shortly thereafter, Kimberly, age 29, moved in with Leo and Mary, bringing her two children with her. So now there are seven – a throuple and their four children.

According to their testimony, pretty much all of their family and friends have been accepting of their lifestyle. They consider themselves very fortunate to have friends and family who “love us for who we are and pay no regard to how we choose to live our lives, as long as we live a happy one.”

I can’t say this is really much of a surprise – either the relationship or the reaction of family and friends. Naturalistic worldview beliefs have become so commonplace in modern society that for many people this seems perfectly normal and natural. This kind of relationship has even become mainstream on prime time TV in at least one show that I am familiar with.

How Immoral Can We Get?But is it really okay? Well, if your worldview beliefs are based on Naturalism it is. Naturalism is based on the belief that the natural universe is all that exists. With that as a belief foundation, there is no belief in the existence of God, so there is no such thing as an objective belief about morality. People basically get to make up their own morality, and it is deemed moral to the degree that society accepts it. And, when society actually becomes dominated by that worldview, you can easily get that kind of acceptance.

But God does exist ... and he has revealed himself, along with the character traits that express his personhood. Beyond that, he has revealed that he wants humanity to also take on those character traits and live life in a way that reflects them.

When it comes to family structure, the exclusive, life long marriage between a man and a woman expresses God’s revealed character. God created man and woman to complement one another in every way – body, mind, and spirit. He created human beings in such a way that within the bonds of marriage, the two become one. And when the relationship is combined with a relationship with God himself, there is total completion. When people attempt experiments with family and try to create some non-traditional structure based on polyamorous, polygamous, or homosexual relationships, the character of God is not reflected, and the very purpose of God is rejected.
