Justine Ang Fonte is a self described sex-positive educator. She has been responsible for developing sex education curriculum for students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Some of her special trainings include such topics as pornography literacy and consent. Her stated goal is to teach healthy sexuality, and she does that at various schools. It seems that not too long back she got in trouble in one school for showing masturbation videos to first graders.
When this story made the New York Post (and was later picked up by other media outlets), she started receiving a lot of flack from the general public. At the same time, she began receiving all kinds of support from other sex education teachers and researchers. They all lined up behind her stating that the material she taught was in line with national sex education standards and W.H.O. guidelines.
In our day, dealing with this topic has become a very difficult challenge. There is, indeed, a need to educate children on certain topics regarding sexuality because sexual perversion has become so commonplace. It is not at all uncommon these days to read stories of children who have been molested or otherwise assaulted – and they have to deal with the consequences of that for the rest of their lives. Children do need to understand such things as the fact that it is not okay for adults to touch their private parts, that when they are molested it is not their fault, and that they should not agree to having a “secret” between themselves and a molester.
The question is, “Why do children even need to have to deal with these kinds of issues – issues that are increasingly prominent in modern society?” And we don’t have to look very far to find the answers.
Now to be sure, these kinds of problems are not new. Child molesters have existed throughout the ages. But why has it become such a massive problem in modern society?
Some people place the blame on the existence of the internet. After all, pornography is everywhere and easily accessible now by virtually anyone because of that technology. And besides the pictures themselves, the technology to share porn with others and view it in the privacy of one’s own home is virtually unlimited.
But the technology is not the real problem. The real problem exists because the naturalistic worldview beliefs that now dominate society don’t put any kind of natural moral stigma on that kind of activity. After all, if Naturalism is true, then there is not even such a thing as objective morality. No one can definitively claim that creating and viewing child pornography is wrong, and the same can be said for sexually acting out with actual children.
But the real kicker is, the worldview beliefs behind the modern sex education movement is the exact same set of beliefs that are behind the thinking of those who exploit children. To all of them, human beings are nothing more than natural animals, and sex is nothing more than a physical act – an act that brings physical pleasure to the participants. To them, there is no spiritual component to it at all. And to modern sex educators, the only reason they consider sex acts with children to be bad is because the kids are not able to give informed consent (though they don’t have an objective reason why that standard should be considered right). And when it comes to older children, it is only natural that they would want to engage in sexual behavior – and there is nothing inherently wrong with it.
The problem is, when you consider people to be nothing more than natural animals, your expectations of them is that they will act like animals. These people consider it unreasonable to expect humans to curb their sexual activity, so they have to create arbitrary rules to govern it (such as “children are out of bounds”). And they consider it unreasonable for teen boys and girls to abstain from sexual relations, so they also advocate for such things as the distribution of condoms at school, and for teaching them, in sex ed class, how to have “proper” sex.
This kind of mindset is the default in modern society. Ultimately is it a spiritual issue. Naturalism is a false religion that promotes a false belief about the nature of man and the nature of morality. And since is it ultimately a spiritual problem, the only ultimate solution is a spiritual solution. People are not going to change their beliefs about this unless they have a change of heart – which means that they must come to place where they have a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. Until that happens, nothing will change. And until everyday Christians start getting serious about speaking up about actual spiritual truth in mainstream society, we can expect the status quo to continue.
