Honoring God - Day 106

Honoring God

By Mike Stickler

Proverbs 14:31
Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.

I remember a few years back there was a devastating earthquake in Pakistan. Thousands were left homeless, injured or dead. Primarily, it’s a Muslim country where acts of God are the “will of Allah” and no one should oppose Allah’s will. So supporting any relief effort goes against their belief system.

That is hard to stomach for a mother who has to bury her child. Or a father desperate for shelter and food to provide and protect his family. Or for a child digging in the rubble to find his mother. The real human pain of it all can be very difficult to fathom.

We will help

But that year, the United States and Christian ministries from all over the world rallied to come to the aid of these victims. Millions of dollars of aid, plus thousands of volunteers came rushing in – primarily from “Christian” nations. During that same month, the King of Saudi Arabia announced the completion of his new palace, whose cost ironically totaled within a few hundred dollars the total aid to Pakistan.

This ironic scene did not go unnoticed by the people of Pakistan and to Muslims in general. For my missionary friends serving within the 10/40 Window, I was told there was a great outpouring – some saying even an evangelistic revival – because of this one clear contrasting demonstration of generosity and honor.

I think these two acts, unbeknownst to those implementing them, demonstrated this verse well.

Today’s Generosity Challenge:
How have you responded to things outside of cultural convention that had a stark clarity of God’s design upon it?

Did God use you to impact the situation to bring glory to Himself?

Write down your thoughts below.
