How Not to Quit?

In today’s #GodsGotThis Blog we are going to talk about HOW NOT TO QUIT BY A GUY WHO HAS QUIT A LOT AND LEARNED FROM QUITTING AND EVEN MORE FROM PERSISTENCE

I have been away from the blog for quite some time. It’s been holidays, illness, work load you name it and I have missed it probably more that y’all! I have talked to so many people lately and this one thing continues to come up. I have even really wrestled with quitting myself!! A LOT over the past couple of months and I can’t guarantee I will never have those feeling again, but I can share how to get away from always living in the pit or the shadows and actually coming out and enjoying the sunshine once in a while.

To start with, here are a few areas to adopt and work on the discipline of STICKTOITIVENESS 🙂

  • Try to discipline yourself… Discipline is at the root of every success story. If you are lazy this is what you might lack.

  • Hard-work has NO substitute… If you wanna do it, it ought to have enough sweat and blood in it. Working hard doesn’t mean you work hard on useless things. It means that you go that extra mile to know about stuff…The stuff of your passion, your message, your breakthrough.  Learning from things is also hard-work.

  • Hard-work doesn’t matter if you don’t improve… Even if it seems to yourself that you are working  harder than God himself but forget to improve then you are going nowhere. (By The Way… You’re not working harder than God himself) Improve yourself, change with the opportunities.

  • Appreciate yourself for your small wins… This is one of the most forgotten piece of advice in the history of advising. If you don’t appreciate yourself for you small wins, you feel depressed even if you lose once.

  • Its okay to quit BUT… When you have given it all you have and more then its okay to let go. Maybe, it just wasn’t for you or maybe letting go will open up something you have been missing. You see all people quit but  in this quote from former President Barack Obama (and this is not any political agenda or anything.. just a great quote.)

“The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won’t. It’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.” —Barack Obama

Henry Ford said “If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right”.

I know for those of you listening that are passionate about your call and dealing with road blocks you’ll get what I am about to say…

“But, I didn’t come this far to only come this far!”

Harriet Beecher Stowe- Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.

Sometimes hearing things like that can just be plain frustrating!! When you have tried so hard and don’t seem to be getting anywhere, it’s tough to just keep going.. BECAUSE THAT’S ALL YOU’VE BEEN DOING!! Well, you keep on.

G.K. Chesterson, a Christian philosopher came up with a great phrase that is surrounded by the basis that if what you propose to do deserves your attention, and is not so trivial that time should not be wasted on it, do it to the best of your ability.

Here is what he said:

‘If a thing is worth doing it is worth doing badly,’

In other words, if a thing is worth doing it is worth making an attempt at it, rather than not trying at all.

That really makes room for mistakes and also for improvement.

Here is a tough reality: Not giving up is a mindset. And it’s a mindset that you CAN adopt. It may not be exactly what you want at the time, but it is an essential part to success.

Galatians 6:9 in The Message has a great way of putting it about quitting:

9 So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit.

Here are a few things you can tell yourself to get in the mood and mode of NOT QUITTING!

  • I persist when things get tough.
  • I will either find a way or make one.
  • Every problem has a solution, and I have the perfect ability to find it.
  • Every day I gain more knowledge and insight about what works and what doesn’t, which means I’m getting stronger and wiser.
  • Setbacks are temporary.
  • I will find a way through this.
  • Think! What’s the best thing to do now?

Having an “I won’t quit” mindset will make it much easier for you to persist—and refuse to give up—until you achieve your goal. Persistence can always defeat resistance if you adopt the right mindset for your life.

I hope this speaks to your heart and that you have found some truths you can carry with you for the rest of your life. It’s not easy to get out of the habit of just quitting instead of persisting. I wish I could say I have achieved it.. I’m a work in progress for sure!! I will say however….There is a way and there is a hope and most assuredly   LIFE! …even when we may doubt, there is hope.

So, before we go today I want to share another great scripture with you from the Bible and remember as Paul said to us from God’s heart in Philippians 4:6-9

6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

And that He surely will my friends. The choice is yours. Judging stops when we make a decision to stop it, we just need to discipline ourselves to hold faithful the truth of God’s Word! That being said…. Don’t give in, don’t give up and never forget
