Technology is becoming very sophisticated these days. In fact, it is becoming sophisticated enough that it is getting to the point that technology companies are able to, literally, track your every move. If you carry a cell phone, you are being tracked – not just your movements, but your buying habits, your preferences, and all of the other things that are a part of your life. They are even able to record your voice to know what you are doing, store images of you that can be used to identify you as you enter and leave various locations, track your spending, and the list could go on and on.
Now there are a lot of conveniences that come along with that, of course. Their ability to do those things also makes it possible for you to buy things over the internet. It makes it possible for your cell phone to guide you to places you need to go. It makes it possible for companies to tailor their products and services to you in ways that fit your needs. And it even makes it possible for you to control conditions in your home and car remotely.
But along with the conveniences come some other possibilities. With the power to track your preferences and movements, government and businesses also gain the ability to maintain increasing control over what you are able to get and what you are able to do.
Certainly, in many cases, we don’t really care, as we consider the conveniences to outweigh the risks. On the other hand, that power can also be used in nefarious ways. For instance, some are already using that power to enforce wokeness (a state of being aware of social problems such as racism and inequality) based on their moral beliefs.
Now that is not a problem if the way the technology companies enforce that corresponds to your beliefs and values. However, if you don’t agree with them, they have the ability to shut you down. If you want to go to certain places or buy certain things, they can tell you that unless you conform to their version of morality you can’t participate in society. They can tell a Christian non-profit to accept gay marriage or you lose your non-profit status. They can tell you that you must receive a vaccine or you will not be allowed to travel on public transportation. They can tell you that if you express Christian values or promote non-politically correct political policies on their social media platform, you will be banned from participating.
So when they begin to use that power to make you choose participation or acceptance of certain activities or maintain you faith, what are you going to do? The time is already here when many people, companies, and other organizations are required to make that choice. It will not be long before you will have to make that choice individually. You better start thinking about it now.
