No Urinals Allowed

The Portland Building, also called the Portland Municipal Services Building, is a 15-story municipal office complex that houses government offices for the City of Portland, Oregon. It was built in 1982 at a cost of 29 million dollars. They are now spending $195,000.00 to remodel it. Obviously, older buildings need a periodic update, so that doesn’t seem like anything unusual.

What is unusual, however, is that when it comes to the remodeling of the restrooms, no urinals will be put in the men’s rooms. All restrooms are being designed to be identical. As of now, there will still be separate men’s and women’s restrooms – well, mostly. Some will be designated co-ed so that both men and women can use the same one if they wish.

When asked about this, the city said that by using the identical design for all of them, and by not installing urinals, they will have more flexibility in the future in deciding how restrooms will be assigned.

As with many attempts by various government and private organizations to institute social policy that defies reality, the City of Portland has not been willing to just come right out and be honest about their real agenda. Everyone knows that certain companies and government jurisdictions that are dominated by people who hold naturalistic worldview beliefs have been doing all they can to accommodate transgender individuals. We have seen this in sports, as men who “self-identify” as women have been allowed to compete in women’s sports, and in the business realm, as various companies have begun allowing people to use restrooms, locker rooms, and dressing rooms based on their self-identified gender, not on their actual sexuality. What is going on in Portland is nothing more than a government jurisdiction taking up the transgender agenda. In this case, the expression it has taken is to remove urinals from the men’s restrooms – since women can’t use urinals, they will simply not be installed.

The move in this direction is rather strange in some ways. Naturalism is the belief that the only thing that exists is the natural universe operating by natural laws. Thus, if it can’t be backed up by science, they believe it should not be considered real. Well, science certainly doesn’t support the notion that transgenderism reflects reality. There are only two sexes – male and female. However, those Naturalists who want to promote the idea of multiple genders try to finesse that fact by making a distinction between sex and gender. They assert that there are only two sexes, but there are many different genders. That, however, is poppycock. In the natural world, there is only male and female, and those who attempt to identify as something other than what they are biologically are living in a fantasy world.

Personally, I don’t care whether or not the City of Portland installs urinals in the restrooms of the Portland building. If that is the way they want to make their restrooms, who really cares? If however, they are doing it to make a statement that there are more than two genders, all they are demonstrating is that they simply don’t know how to distinguish reality from fantasy.
